First Flight Winterguard

Founded in the fall of 1996, First Flight was born out of the determination of a local North Carolina high school winterguard program. When the original team found themselves unable to compete at the WGI World Championships, a dedicated staff and group of performers pivoted to create an independent organization that could take the national stage on its own terms.

Since its inaugural season in 1997, First Flight has established a legacy of excellence in the marching arts. The ensemble is an accomplished two-time Independent A finalist, a four-time WGI Independent Open finalist, and a four-time Independent World finalist.

For the 2025 season, First Flight is proud to compete in the Independent Open class. The group performs at numerous local and national competitions annually, culminating their season at the Winterguard International World Championships in Dayton, Ohio.
